Acoustic Complexity Index: A Simple Overview

Here’s a simple overview of what the Acoustic Complexity Index (ACI) is and how it can be applied to analyse acoustic environments. It’s especially useful within the field of acoustic ecology. I’ve made an effort to keep this explanation as general as possible and provided some relevant audio examples to demonstrate this.

 

The audio files are from an AudioMoth deployed on the bank of Carrickalinga Creek in July 2022. The files were processed in R Studio using the ‘acousticecology’ package to produce the ACI dataset which is visualised as a plot in the video.
