Karachi – Cantonment Railway Station
Cantonment Railway Station – Karachi, the entrance hall forms a distinct acoustic territory where architecture, movement, and infrastructure overlap. Its old, reverberant structure amplifies footsteps, conversations, and the circulation of passengers entering and exiting the platform, producing a rhythmic flow of mobility tied to everyday travel between cities such as Karachi and Lahore. This rhythm is periodically reorganized by official announcements that structure passenger movement and signal departure. As the train prepares to leave, the low engine hum and track vibrations become more present, culminating in a large train horn that acts as a final warning and a sonic boundary marker before departure. In this moment, sound operates not just as background but as a social and infrastructural force that coordinates movement, time, and collective attention within the station.
