Dr. Neil Hillman and (AFAE/WFAE member) Jason Nicholas, two professionals working in film and television sound, discuss the many ways sound is used in to engage, entertain, educate and inform listeners. The podcast covers a range of topics through interviews with motion picture industry insiders as well as academics and professionals in other fields who talk about the human understanding and perception of sound.
Neil has a 40-year career in film and television sound. He is a location sound recordist, production sound mixer, dialogue editor, supervising sound editor, re-recording mixer and outside broadcast sound supervisor with over 1000 credits on his IMDB page. He is also a coach and mentor to other professionals in the industry and has written a book on his theories of sound in film entitled Sound for Moving Pictures: The Four Sound Areas published by Routledge Press.
Jason is a professional audio editor with over twenty years of experience in media production. His university training was as a cinematographer. However, he’s since acted in a variety of roles in the not-for-profit world producing promotional and documentary video, writing curriculum and leading international cross-cultural immersion teams.
